At one point this was the only method being used to drill domestic water wells here in the Fraser Valley. Some of these wells are still around 50 years later! Over time, the cable tool drillers have retired or died off, leaving the Fraser Valley with a couple of drilling contractors who operate large air rotary rigs. Air rotary rigs allow contractors to drill 5 times as many wells over the course of a year. As a contractor the preferred method of drilling is using the air rotary drilling method (if you have lots of wells to drill). If you're a homeowner the Cable Tool drilling method should be your first choice as it will produce a superior well.
