Drilling Condition in Langley

We service most of the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland but have drilled throughout the Langley area (we're Aldergrove based).  Specifically the areas of Aldergrove, Brookswood/Fernridge, Fort Langley, Salmon River, Otter, Murrayville and Campbell Valley

Aldergrove

The Aldergrove area is known for it's sand and gravel aquifers, often overlain by thick silts and clay.  There are several aquifers being utilized in the area, ranging in depth from 100-300 feet in depth.  In the past some of the wells were constructed not keeping in mind the future increase in demand.  We're now seeing the static water level in the Hopington aquifer drop, resulting in some dry wells.  In many cases this could have been prevented by drilling to the bottom of the aquifer.

Otter and North Otter

There's lots of well drilling going on here lately due to the increase of new home construction or homeowners becoming tired of dealing with their dug wells.  Here the wells are constructed in alluvial sands and gravels and range in depth from 50-300 feet deep.  It can be difficult to give an accurate drilling estimate without a fair amount of research on our part.  This is due to layered aquifers which can be quite narrow and are often hydraulically connected.  We've drilled wells in North Otter where we've encountered water at 20 feet, yet the neighbouring wells are over 200 feet deep.

Brookswood/Fernridge

Typical water wells in the Brookswood area of Langley tap into the highly productive but vulnerable Brookswood aquifer (sand and gravel), often featuring unconfined, shallow-to-moderate depth groundwater. Water quality frequently exhibits high iron and manganese levels.

Fort Langley

A typical private water well in the Fort Langley area is often  tapping into sand and gravel aquifers at depths varying significantly, with many under 200 feet. Groundwater in this area is known to be corrosive, with low pH levels (6.5-7.5), and some wells may experience, at times, high iron or manganese levels.   In the Glenn Valley we can encounter some serious high volume, flowing artesian conditions which require some more involved planning

Campbell Valley

The wells in the Campbell Valley Area typically are constructed in coarse sand and gravel, and range in between 120 and 400 feet deep.  There are quite a few shallow, low yielding, flowing artesian wells clustered south of Campbell Valley Park

Murrayville

Typical water wells in the Murrayville area of Langley, B.C., tap into confined, moderate-productivity sand and gravel aquifers, such as the Vashon Drift. These wells are generally deep, often ranging from 12 m to over 100 m in depth.  Many of these wells are flowing artesian, with the highest yielding ones clustered across the road from the Langley Airport (East), these wells require more involved planning before drilling.

Why Local Experience Matters

Drilling conditions in Langley can change dramatically within short distances. An experienced drilling contractor understands how to adjust drilling methods, casing depth, and well design based on local formation knowledge.  Unexpected flowing well conditions can also be of concern for inexperienced drillers.

A well built correctly from the start will outperform one drilled to a “standard depth” without consideration for site-specific conditions.
