Choosing a Qualified Well Driller In BC

Welcome to Red Dog Well Drilling, your trusted well drilling contractor!

When you’re investing in a new water well, choosing the right drilling contractor is just as important as choosing the well location itself. Not all companies that advertise “well drilling” actually own a drilling rig or perform the work themselves — some act as brokers or marketing agencies that subcontract drilling to other companies.  Quite often they sell fear to promote their dowsing services.

At Red Dog Well Drilling, we own and operate our own track-mounted drilling rigs, allowing us to handle every step of your well construction directly —  with full accountability and transparent pricing.

✅ Work Directly with a Licensed Driller

Before hiring anyone for well construction in BC, confirm that they are:

  • Licensed under the BC Water Sustainability Act

  • Listed on the BC Well Driller Registry

  • Carrying appropriate insurance and safety certification

Working directly with the driller ensures:

  • You know exactly who is on your property

  • You’re getting accurate pricing with no middle-man markup

  • The work meets all provincial standards for well construction

🔍 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Driller

  1. Do you own your drilling equipment?
If not, you may be paying extra for subcontracted work.

  2. Who will be on-site doing the drilling?
Make sure you’ll be dealing directly with licensed professionals.

  3. Will you provide a well log and construction report?
A professional driller must file well reports with the BC government.

  4. Are you familiar with local aquifers and terrain?
Local experience is key for accurate siting and reliable results.

💧 Data-Driven Well Siting, Not Guesswork

One company still promotes water divining (also called dowsing) as a way to find groundwater. While this practice has a long history, it has no scientific basis — and it’s not recognized by any geological or hydrogeological authority in Canada.

Modern well siting uses Topographic and geological mapping

  • Knowledge of local aquifers
  • Experience from nearby wells and soil conditions
  • Provincial groundwater data

We're not in the business of selling Dowsing.  In areas where it's difficult to find water we'll always refer you to a company which specializes in Seismic Resistivity testing.  We have no vested interested in doing this other than wanting to minimize the customer's risk.

At Red Dog, we rely on science, experience, and data, not divining rods.
